About 20 years ago I read a similar idea in an old soviet era science fiction book. The story was about a group of scientists trying to extract sound recordings from ancient Egyptian pottery where sticks have been used for ornaments. Vibrations from the sounds and voices in the pottery workshop might have been transmitted through the stick to the pottery during formation and then burned into the final object. I suppose this probably won't work but who knows?
