Scientists Worry Machines May Outsmart Man – sooner or later…

A very interesting article in New York Times:
“Impressed and alarmed by advances in artificial intelligence, a group of computer scientists is debating whether there should be limits on research that might lead to loss of human control over computer-based systems that carry a growing share of society’s workload, from waging war to chatting with customers on the phone. ”

I think this will happen anyway as AI modules and algorithmes become more and more available and used and there is still a large demand on increasingly intelligent applications and software agents. And the point will be: do you want to stop research and development in IT and related jobs or yoy want to wipe out the jobs in the areas outsmarted by such applications?
In the end I think the evolution theory will have to be re-phrased to include AI life and eventually humans will have to understand and aknowledge their limits and decide if they want to protect the status quo and stop progress or allow progress and learn to co-exist with some other life forms which eventually might be able to save and expand the Earth borne civilization – being it human or AI or some hopefully smart mix.
One could also see humans like some smart but limited robots plaguing the planet…
Great subject to blog about!
