We started experimenting Amazon’s S3 service via a Wordpress plugin written by Dan Coulter. We used in the past a number of different plugins for database and wordpress files backups but we think that long term is better to use a service offered by a reliable large organization. Long term archiving strategies have to include services offered by large companies which will have better chances to survive economic crises and adverse business conditions. I’d expect later on additional services to become available for data migration to new standards.

So, the eSouls can archive themselves, using such Simple Storage Services and later on when AI support will become available computing power should be used a s needed from services like Amazon’s EC2 – Elastic Compute Cloud. Likely after several decades (this is why we need long term archiving) AI eSouls will need to support their digital life on computing power services, again coming ideally from large organizations. eSouls will have to save funds for their electronic life and/or provide some lucrative services in order to cover any financing needs. That business obviously will have to be based on some assets and I wonder if info from the archive can be translated into some sort of skills to help with an income flow.

Anyway, I’m looking forward for an opportunity to use EC2 although for blogger, I guess that would rather be a deal between hosting companies like GoDaddy and Amazon. Or, maybe, some computing intensive AI plugins – I love Wordpress – might be based on Services like Amazon’s EC2. By the way we had to stop our Chat Theatre representations on due to limited allotment of server computing power. So a simple and easy access to EC2 would be beneficial even today.

For S3 there are a number of Wordpress plugins already. So far Dan’s plugin works nice although it’s not archiving the database yet. We still wait to see the first bill from Amazon where we expect a very reasonable price. I’d prefer however also the option to pay through PayPal – hopefully Amazon will add it later.

Let us know your experience and thoughts on the above.
