Change of mind and regression testing
March 28th, 2009 | by Steve | 452 views | 6 Comments | Log in |I asked often myself and others why it is so difficult for us to change when we know we are wrong and we understand all good reasons and benefits of a certain good change? Now I have the feeling that the same way a large company won’t just jump and change overnight an ERP system in use, but will conduct extensive and laborious testings, the same logic might be hardwired in our brain requiring a review of the implications of a certain change. And in any of the minds of the souls reading these words there is sure more valuable data than in the majority of the corporate giants (excepting probably Google and other Internet archiving and storage businesses).
So, while sometimes, in the case of a small, less significant change, we might be able to adopt change quickly, when we perceive many implications affecting many of our habits and automatismes, like in religious, basic life objectives, etc, our brain might want to see first the results of some similarly extensive and elaborated regression tests to prove that the change will still keep the whole system viable and hopefully improved.
