Many cultures have the concept of eternal life and the elixir which would eventually make humans immortal was searched from immemorial times. It looks however that people were and are a lot more concerned with a long existence of the body than that of their soul or mind. Think for example, of the christian heaven, where bodies won’t feel pain and will be eternal as they won’t get rotten. But the mind will still be limited by whatever performance that brain will have. If mind and memories won’t be limited, everybody in heaven will be like God or will be able to get there just downloading info from god’s brain, although it looks like it will be needed an infinite number of universes to multiply all God’s wisdom, knowledge and recordings of the whole universe history. So if we won’t be gods in heaven and will have an eternal body with a limited memory, then we’ll have to stop learning (quite sad – can that be called life?) when we reach the limit of our mind or we’ll have to come up with some scheme of deleting old data to make room to newer more valuable findings. (I have the feeling our biologic brain is already doing something like that).
